7. Block Clearance
When the starter’s gun is fired, start running as shown in the Figure. Remember to maintain your body at 45° to the ground when your front foot leaves the blocks and keep your line of sight at 90° to the angle of your upper body.
Do not look up at too sharp an angle, look straight ahead or look too far down, as this will cause the shoulders to tense and will prevent effective swinging of the arms.
It is important, therefore, for the athlete to maintain the right angle of sight as indicated in the Figure in order to ensure natural, uncramped arm technique.
Swing the arms fully back and front as shown in the Figure.
